Australia Sea Kayak Trips
Your Adventure Down Under Begins Here
Sea Kayak Our Island Nation
We may be biased, being based here, but we believe an Australian sea kayak holiday makes so much sense, whether you’re a local or a visitor to our shores.
Australia offers a huge variety of paddling opportunities along its extensive and pristine coastline. Southern Sea Ventures offer sea kayak trips on the tropical north east coast of Queensland (Hinchinbrook), to the dry west coast of Western Australia (Ningaloo Reef) and south to wild and rugged Tasmania (Freycinet, Tasman Peninsula’s and Bruny Island).
As Australia has a variety of climate zones we have a destination for every season. Choose to head north or west for the warm weather or stay down south for a more temperate holiday. At each destination you’ll discover amazing sea and landscapes, ancient indigenous culture and a sense of freedom in our vast wilderness, all while staying at remote campsites or secluded accommodation. Have we mentioned the wildlife? While paddling on Ningaloo Reef you’ll encounter turtles, dolphins, amazing coral and thousands of tropical fish, while on land see iconic Australian animals like kangaroos, emus and wallabies.
Stay a few more days after your Ningaloo kayak adventure for an underwater encounter with the majestic whale sharks or humpback whales. On our Tasmanian trips you will likely encounter the majestic sea eagle, the playful Australian fur seal or perhaps the elusive albatross and in far north Queensland, keep an eye out for a cassowry, but don’t go too close!
Australian produce is amazing and you’ll eat well on all our trips as our professional and very capable guides are fantastic wilderness cooks. Think seafood and tropical fruit in Mission Beach, where the Hinchinbrook Sea Kayaking trips are based, to artisan cheeses, oysters and locally brewed cider and beer on our Tasmanian sea kayaking adventures.
Whatever trip (or two) you choose, be prepared for fabulous paddling, stunning scenery and a warm Aussie welcome from your local kayak guides. Read on for more information on our Australian adventures or if you have any questions, please contact our office.

Sea Kayak Hinchinbrook Island
Hinchinbrook Island, Goold Island and the Family Islands are continental islands located off the tropical coast between Ingham and Tully in North Queensland. With granite peaks rising 1142 metres directly out of the sea, Hinchinbrook Island is a magnificent backdrop for sea kayaking. Waterfalls, tropical rainforests, precipitous headlands, coral reefs and secluded beaches are among the island’s treasures.
